Lots of Moose at Pika Works

Gramps by Joan MacKenzie 3/89

Grandpa pika wonders what it is about moose that makes people like them so much. Whether they are realistically depicted or captured as cartoons, moose endear themselves to many of us. They are big, they are homely, and we love them.

Howard saw these moose at dawn in Yellowstone National Park.

A Few Moose Facts
Moose are the largest members of the deer family. To be precise, the moose species is Alces alces and there are 6 subspecies. Four subspecies live on the North American continent. They differ a bit in overall size, coloring and shape of head but you wouldn't mistake any of them for anything but a moose.*

Alces alces andersoni Northwestern Moose Middle range of face width
