Day 3 - Fravert Basin to Snowmass Lake via Trail Rider Pass

< Day 2Trip OverviewDay 4 >

Another tough day. We have more descent to 10,400 feet before starting up again on the long climb to Trail Rider Pass. This is another day of world class wildflowers.

The field was blanketed with beautiful wildflowers.
Indian paintbrush splashed red here and there.

The cutoff trail from Fravert Basin to the pass is quite steep. Once on the main trail, the going gets easier.
As we headed up the steep trail from Fravert Basin, the views kept us going.

Trail Rider Pass, at 12,400 feet, has wonderful views of Snowmass Lake, our destination, far below.
From Trail Rider Pass we could see Snowmass Lake - our destination.

Today is about 6.5 miles with 2000 feet up and 1800 feet down (all estimates). We arrived at Snowmass Lake on a Saturday night. Avoid doing this if at all possible as many, many people come here for the weekend. We were still able to find nice campsites for our group, albeit a more social experience than a wilderness one.
