Words on Back: Maddalena walked right up to me as we were hiking on the Rasciesa plateau high above Ortisei in the Dolomites of Italy. She was frisking around with other haflingers and her curious dark neighbors. It is such a treat to meet these gentle animals as they enjoy a summer day in the mountains.
