"Northern Splendor" moose is the world's largest deer with antlers often spanning 6 to 8 feet, standing 6 feet tall at the shoulder and weighing half a ton. During the rut (mating season) bull moose have been known to challenge freight trains and turn over pick-up trucks or attach themselves to farmers' cows. Their humorous appearance and personality makes moose a worldwide favorite. GAIL is a sculptor who make these plaques in a log cabin in the geographical center of Arizona. After GAIL completes the original carving, she makes a silicone mold in which the reproductions are cast. Each is a limited edition and comes with a signed and numbered certificate of authenticity. This makes these unique wall sculptures affordable (the original would sell for $1,500 to $2,000.) Because GAIL's relief wall sculptures are individually hand painted, owning one is like having a limited edition print, a sculpture and an original painting all in one work of art. GAIL cast her first framed bas relief in 1976. It won a purchase award, encouraging her to continue in that medium. Another framed relief won the J.K. Ralston Museum award in 1979. After spending five summers on the Canadian border observing wolves, moose, bear, otters and wolverine in the wild, GAIL started the current wildlife series. One of her wolf designs was sold-out by Wild Wings, a print publisher and catalog company that specializes in wildlife art. GAIL also sculpts in bronze and her works are owned by private and corporate collectors all over the world. She has done heroic-scale public monuments as well as smaller works. |
